Who We Are
As you can see by our Mission Statement above, the our Disciples church is a congregationally governed body. This means that our "Board" is made up of all of our members, and all members are welcome to participate in our Board meetings and the decision making for our church. Our congregation elects officers of the Board. And like all Disciples churches, we call our own pastor, own our property, and determine the shape and quantity of our ministries. There are over 4000 Disciples churches across the world, and we belong to the Upper Midwest Region that serves 155 churches.
Two practices that Disciples churches share are weekly communion, and baptism by immersion. As the following statement of identity points out, all are welcome at the Lord's table. We believe that baptism is a conscious choice by believers, therefore do not baptize babies and young children. However, we do have a custom of offering a "dedication" or "blessing" for this age group, as we believe that the children should be welcomed into God's church. We accept transfer of members from other denominations without a requirement of re-baptism.
Lenox Christian Church demands no allegiance to a specific creed; however, we do challenge members to search the Holy Scriptures and Life; to discover a faith in the Living God as revealed in Jesus Christ. Men, women and youth may equally participate in congregational leadership and service.
Disciples of Christ Statement of
Identity:
We are Disciples of Christ, a
movement for wholeness in a fragmented world.
As part of one body of Christ, we welcome all to the Lord's
table, as God has welcomed us.
